A 35-year-old woman has been taken into custody on the charge of murdering her three-month-old nephew in a village in Odisha's Kendrapara district, police said today.

The body of the infant was spotted in the water container on August 11 by family members. The body was later buried after the parents and relatives thought it to be a case of mishap. However, the child's mother smelling foul play later lodged a FIR alleging that her child was killed.
Following the compliant, the body was exhumed in presence of executive magistrate and sent for post mortem.
The accused persons, named in the FIR, were detained and were questioned. Murder was also corroborated on the basis of findings in the postmortem report. The baby was strangled leading to the death, police said.
Besides circumstantial evidence had also provided ample clues to attest that the baby was murdered.
During interrogation, the accused spilled the beans and confessed to the crime, said the police. Police suspect that property dispute and past enmity between her and the mother of the infant led to the murder, the official said.
She was arrested and sent to jail on Thursday.
