A woman has been arrested here on charge of allegedly luring a woman under the pretext of getting her a job in Delhi, who later died due to physical assault by her employer, police said today.

Mariyam surrendered herself at the Mukherjee Nagar police station, they said.

"She got to know that several police teams are looking for her and thought that she won't be able to escape. She surrendered at the police station and was arrested," police said.

According to the sources, Mariyam allegedly trafficked the girl from West Bengal and she is not sharing details about other girls trafficked from the state and Nepal on the pretext of providing lucrative jobs in Delhi.

Mariyam used to convince poor families of these girls and tell them that their daughters will earn good money in the range of Rs 5,000-Rs 10,000 in Delhi and brought them here, police said.

The maid had succumbed at a private hospital on January 4 allegedly due to physical assault.

Meanwhile, the medical board of Safdarjung Hospital that was supposed to conduct the autopsy of the maid, couldn't conduct the post-mortem yesterday and it will be carried out today, the officer said.

Following the autopsy, the body will be handed over to her mother for the last rites.

The accused employer, Atul Kr Lohia, was arrested on December 24 but was later released on bail. Earlier, a case under Section 304(culpable homicide) was also added.

The placement agency owner, Ganesh Burman, and a woman agent were also arrested in this connection.

It was found that Barman used to lure women through agents like Mariyam from areas like West Bengal on the pretext of providing jobs in Delhi.
