Woman axed to death by husband in UP

A woman was today allegedly axed to death by her husband in village Mujhapurwa in Singahi area here, police said.

Meera (35) was axed to death this afternoon by her husband, they said.

The incident was stated to be fallout of illicit relationship of the husband with another woman.

Police is probing the matter and trying to trace the accused, who is absconding.
The victim also met DGP Loknath Behera at the police

headquarters here today seeking a fresh probe into the incident.

Behera later told reporters that appropriate action will be taken. "You can trust us. We will do the needful," he said.
 

Meanwhile, dismissing the allegations as "baseless", Jayanthan said they were levelled against him after he demanded repayment of a loan of Rs 3 lakh which he had given to the woman's husband for the treatment of their child.

He alleged that the couple later demanded Rs 15 lakh from him and subsequently, levelled the allegations against him as he refused to oblige.

CPI(M) sources said the party will look into the allegations against Jayanthan and take necessary action if he was found guilty.

Meanwhile, the Congress and the BJP demanded swift action against the accused and alleged that he was being protected by the ruling party in the state.
