In a freak mishap, a 25-year old woman employee of IDBI Bank was killed at its branch here when a security guard's gun went off accidentally while bullets were being loaded by him today.

Vilna, who had joined the sales department of the bank hardly a month ago, died on the spot as the bullet hit her on the head, police said.

The incident occurred around 9.30 AM when the branch's 51 year-old guard, a retired army man, was loading the bullets in the gun inside the branch after taking possession of it from the bank's Assistant Manager minutes earlier. The security guard, Harindranath, had retired from the Army's Electrical-Mechanical Engineering wing in 2011, and had been working in the bank since 2013, police said.

The guard has been taken into custody and case registered under IPC 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
