Woman bank manager escapes abduction attempt

A woman branch manager of a private bank was allegedly abducted by unidentified persons but managed to escape from their clutches, police said tonight.

The incident took late last night when HDFC branch manager Manju Sharma was returning home from work, police said, adding, two unknown miscreants alighted her car near crystal chowk and forced her to drive to an undisclosed location at knife-point.

Police commissioner Amritsar Jatinder Singh Aulakh said the woman raised an alarm after reaching a crowded area near Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj Sahib.

The abductors sensing danger fled from the spot leaving her behind, he said.

Police said the kidnappers are yet to be identified and various police teams have been formed to nab them.
