Police today arrested a 25-year-old woman and her boyfriend for allegedly extorting Rs 10 lakh from three persons by implicating them in a rape case, registered last week, in southeast Delhi's Sunlight Colony area.

The woman and her 24-year-old boyfriend, both living in east Delhi's Jagatpuri area, had negotiated a deal of Rs 10 lakh with the accused in the rape case, promising to withdraw the same on receiving the money, a senior police official said.

They had already taken Rs 50,000 yesterday and as they came to take the balance amount today, police laid a trap and arrested the duo.

During interrogation, it came to light that in February this year, the duo had allegedly extorted Rs 5 lakh from three persons in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area with the same modus operandi, the official said.

Last week, a case was registered after the woman alleged that the trio had abducted her from outside an eatery in southeast Delhi's Nizamuddin area and gang-raped her in a moving car before they dumped her near Indraprastha Park.
