Woman burnt to death by husband, in-laws for dowry

A woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Ballabhgarh here, police said today.

A UP-resident Sandeep complained that his sister was yesterday killed by her husband Udham Singh and in-laws, residents of Subhash Nagar in Ballabhgarh, who set her afire for their dowry demand, they said.

The victim got married to Udham in October 2013 and since then her husband and in-laws were harassing her demanding dowry, police said.

The victim and her family raised the matter in Panchayat meetings too but her harassment did not stop, they said.

On the basis of Sandeep's complaint, an FIR was lodged against Udham Singh, his father Shishpal, mother Dharmvati and his sister under section 304B (dowry death) and 34 (acts done by several persons) of the IPC, police said.
 

An investigation is underway in the matter, they added.

Meanwhile, a woman complained that since her marriage in June 2013, her husband Asif and in-laws were harassing her for dowry and threatened to kill her.

On her complaint, Asif, his father Islam, mother Harmani and his sister, residents of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, have been booked yesterday, police said, adding an investigation is on.
