A woman, from the city's southern fringes has allegedly committed suicide by injecting some fluid in her veins, the police said today.
Acting on the complaints of the woman's father, her husband, to whom she was married for less than a year, has arrested, they said.
Madhyami Chatterjee (28), a nurse by profession, committed suicide by injecting some unidentified fluid in her veins at her parental house in Purba Barisha within the limits of Haridevpur Police Station in the intervening night of June 25 and 26, which her family members alleged was primarily because of domestic violence at her in-laws' place, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
The deceased was a staff nurse with a private clinical establishment and was married to Chiranjit Chatterjee (33) for less than a year.
On a complaint of the father of the deceased, a case was recorded yesterday against Chiranjit who has been arrested late last night from his house at Roghunathpur in Durgapur.
Chiranjit has been booked under several sections for abetment of suicide and those dealing with husband or relatives of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty, the police said.
