A woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the premises of the Tura Women's police station today.
According to police sources, the woman had come to Tura a few days ago to meet a friend and was staying with another friend (who is working as a maid) in the Dobasipara locality in the town of Tura.
The problem began today when the woman refused to go back home, which raised suspicions of the house owner. The house owner along with local residents brought the woman to the Dobasipara Beat House (DBH) for police to look into the matter. She was brought to the DBH at about 8 am this morning.

"As there were no women personnel in the DBH, she was brought to the Tura Women's police station to be spoken to and kept at the general room with another group of people who had come for another case. At about 10:30 am she wished to go the bathroom to answer the call of nature. A woman constable went along with her to the bathroom," said West Garo Hills (WGH) district police chief, MGR Kumar.
Apparently when the woman did come out even after 15 minutes , the constable on duty began calling out to her. However, when there was no further response, sensing danger, the bathroom door was broken down in the presence of other people in the police station and the woman was found hanging.
"We are still investigating the cause of her apparent suicide and are not ruling out a love angle to the case. An inquest was performed in the presence of a doctor and a magistrate and the body has now been sent for post mortem to the Tura Civil Hospital (TCH). All other formalities have currently been completed and further inquiry into the matter taken up" the SP added.
