A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well along with her two minor children in Barmer, following which the husband also ended his life, police said today.
Chunni Devi had a verbal spat with her husband on Thursday following which she jumped into the well along with her 18-month-old son Lalit and 6-month-old daughter Gayatri, they said.
She took this extreme step when her husband and in-laws had gone to attend a wedding nearby, SHO Chohatan police station Saang Singh said.
When the woman's husband Anil returned, he did not find them in the house and followed their footmarks leading to the well.
After spotting the bodies inside the well, Anil jumped into it and died, he said.
"Primary investigation revealed that the couple had a verbal spat on some issue on Thursday night after which the woman was annoyed with the husband. She in a fit of rage took the extreme step, which also prompted the husband to end his life," he said.
The bodies were pulled out from the well last night and handed over to family members after postmortem today, police said.
