A woman police constable was allegedly found murdered at her official residence in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, police said today.

The body of Jyoti Patel (24), who was posted at City Kotwali police station, was found with multiple head injuries inside her room at the government quarters in Police Line area this morning, Raigarh Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat said.

Preliminary investigation indicated that Jyoti was brutally hit on her head with traditional grinding stones, which the police recovered from the spot, Bhagat said.

A native of Andmal village under Pusaur police station of the district, the victim was recruited in the police department three years back as a compensatory appointment following her father's death.

"She used to stay alone in a room at the government quarters in Police Line," the SP said.

After spotting her lying in a pool of blood on bed, her colleagues called the police station following which a police team was rushed to the spot and the body was sent for post-mortem, the SP said.

Traditional grinding stones with blood stains, which were apparently used to kill her, were recovered from the spot, he said.

"We are yet to identify the culprits and ascertain the exact reason behind the murder," he said.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a love affair might be the cause behind the incident and involvement of persons close to her, including some policemen, can't be ruled out, Bhagat said.

A case has been registered in this connection, the SP said adding that further probe is on.
