Woman country-liquor seller arrested

A woman was arrested today as eight persons fell ill allegedly after consuming country liquor sold by her at Dhapagaon under K Nuagaon police station limits in Odisha's Ganjam district, the police said.

Nirmala Sahu, who allegedly sold the country-made liquor to the victims yesterday, was arrested and 23 litres of country-made liquor seized from her, said sub-divisional police officer of Chikiti, P K Jena.

The victims complained of vomiting and diarrhoea and were admitted at the community health centre (CHC) at Chikiti yesterday evening and later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

While three of them were discharged, others were under treatment, the police said.
 

Her husband, who was also an accused in the case, remained at large after the incident, he said adding couple was selling liquor in the area illegally.

The seized liquor would be sent for laboratory test, said the SDPO.
