A 40-year-old tribal woman and her one of the twin babies were hacked to death allegedly by a relative of her in Torpa police station area of Khunti district, police today said.
Chani Mundu, who was returning home along with her two-year-old twin daughters, was attacked with a sharp weapon allegedly by her brother-in-law, Jigga Mundu last evening, Superintendent of Police, Ashwini Kumar Sinha told newsmen.
Chani and one of her daughters died on the spot while the other girl suffered grievous injuries. She was referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi.
Jigga has been arrested.
However, the cause behind the attack could not yet been established as yet, Sinha added.
