In a freak incident, a 28-year-old woman was killed allegedly after an electric pole fell on her while she was standing in the balcony of her house in outer Delhi's Aman Vihar area, police said today.

The pole apparently fell due the impact of a large tree that got uprooted leading to the death of Arti, mother of a month-old girl, yesterday, they said.

Meanwhile, Tata Power Delhi Distribution in a statement condoled the death of Arti and claimed the incident occurred because of unsafe construction practice.

"The bathroom, where the woman was washing clothes, was constructed over an extended cantilever and collapsed due to its faulty and weak construction. The collapsed bathroom fell on Tata Power-DDL's insulated line and 3 poles collapsed under its weight as the insulated LT line was below it. The collapsed three poles were at a distance of 15 metre and more from the site of the incident," the statement claimed.

A police complaint has been filed in the case.
