A 40-year-old tribal woman, who was attacked by an elephant two days ago in rural limits, today succumbed to injuries at the government hospital here. Saraswati, a resident of Perumalkoilpati tribal colony at Alandurai, on the outskrits, was attacked by an elephant on the evening of May 10, when she was working in a field and was immediately rushed to the government hospital here. She died in hospital this morning, police said.
Meanwhile, a four-year-old spotted deer and a 15-year-old elephant were electrocuted, when they came into contact with a snapped live wire at a farm near Mettupalayam in the district.
The carcasses were noticed yesterday morning by workers of a nearby banana farm at Odanthurai, police said.

In another incident, a spotted deer strayed into the tourist town of Udhagamandalam in Nilgiris district today.
The deer was rescued and released in an area coming under Mudumalai Tiger Reserve area, forest officials said.
