A 47-year-old woman died after she was allegedly attacked by an elephant today in Dharmagiri, about 80 kms from here, police said.
Leena was on her way to a church this morning, when an elephant waylaid her, they said.
When she tried to run away, the pachyderm caught hold of her with its trunk and trampled her with its leg, police said.
As the public raised an alarm, the elephant ran into the jungle.
Though the relatives and public rushed Leena to the Gudalur government hospital, she died on the way, police said.
