A 62-year-old widow today suffered a heart attack and died after she was allegedly slapped by an electricity department official who had come to her house to cut off the power connection due to non-payment of dues here.
Police said the incident took place in Sadar Bazar police station area of the district. After the woman's death, her family members and neighbours allegedly assaulted the power official and his four colleagues holding them responsible for the death.
The woman, Brahma Devi, had been living with her son and they received an electricity bill of around Rs 20,000. Her son has filed a complaint at Sadar Bazar police station. Police are looking into the case, an officer said.
