A man and his wife were arrested here on charges of duping a woman of over Rs 15 lakh through a fake profile on a matrimonial website, police said today.
The arrests of Oboh Tony, a Nigerian, and Rosy Noronha were made following a complaint by the woman's father, a resident of Motia Khan. She was duped of Rs 15.50 lakh by the couple, they said.
They were arrested on April 14 from Mayur Vihar, police said.
The website had suggested that one Vinoth Abhishek's profile was an ideal match for the woman.
On September 19, 2017, the complainant's wife called Abhishek and they exchanged numbers, police said.
Abhishek called the woman in October, 2017, and told her that he was on duty on a ship and he would be reaching Mumbai on October 20, they said.

He told her that he would be coming to meet her and her family on October 21.
However, Abhishek, later informed the woman that there was a change in his programme as his ship was attacked and damaged by Somalian sea-pirates, and thus, to save his personal belongings he had dispatched them to the her address, police said.
He also told her that he had paid the air freight in advance, but a remaining amount of USD 1,450 had to be paid by them, they said.
The complainant was informed that the consignment had reached the Chhatarpati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.
The complainant paid Rs 1,92,083, Rs 4,96,700, Rs 7.50 lakh and Rs 1 lakh in the name of the air-freight carrier, difference settlement, Income Clearance, United Nation Clearance and Immigration Fee to be paid to the US Government for transit passport respectively, police said.
Subsequently, the complainant realised that they were being duped and filed a police complaint, they said.
