Woman duped of Rs 10,300 on pretext of marriage in Haryana

A woman was allegedly duped of Rs 10,300 here by a youth whom she came to know through a matrimonial website and promised to marry her, police said today.

In her complaint to the police, Neha Sharma, a resident Sector-34 of said that a youth who introduced himself as Rohan Kapoor, a resident of Gurgaon, befriended her through a matrimonial website and claimed he has a house at South Extension in Delhi, they said.

After some time when, he told Neha that his wife died in an accident while his mother and a sister lives in USA, police said.

Rohan informed Neha that he was in Nepal for some official work and would be back on 20th July after which they will talk to both the families and get married in court, they said.
 

After a few days, he called on Neha's phone and requested her to pay Rs 10,300 for some purpose. Rohan assured her that the money would be paid back once he comes back, police said.

Neha paid the amount to a girl who was allegedly referred by Rohan. Neha was also given a receipt for the payment, they said, adding after that Rohan's mobile phone was reportedly switched off.

A case under Section 420 of the IPC was registered against the accused and investigation is underway, Investigation Officer ASI Asmaan Singh said.
