Woman farmer dies due to suspected pesticide poisoning

A 55-year-old woman farmer, who complained of uneasiness after spraying pesticide in her agriculture field, died at a hospital here, the police said today.

The woman, Kesharbai Laxman Gaikwad, a resident of Musalgaon, died at the hospital of a medical college here yesterday, a senior police official said.

After spraying pesticide in her field on October 17, Gaikwad complained of uneasiness andrespiratory problems following which she was admitted to a private hospital, he said.

Later, she was shifted the medical college hospital. After post-mortem, her body was handed over to her kin, the official said, adding a probe was on.
 

In the past few months, 21 farmers from Yavatmal district in Maharashtra have died allegedly after inhaling poisonous pesticides while spraying them in their cotton fields.
