A woman here has been awarded 12 years' rigorous imprisonment by a Delhi court for possessing 500 grams of heroin.

Special Judge, NDPS, Shail Jain awarded the jail term to Ghaziabad resident Rabina, a mother of three, for possessing the drug and also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on her.

"Considering the fact that convict was found in possession of 500 grams of heroin, which is commercial quantity and convict is a lady having three minor children, hence convict Rabina is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 12 years and to pay fine of Rs 1 lakh," the court said.

In its order, the court rejected the contention of accused's counsel that since no receiver of drug was apprehended by the Delhi Police, she was falsely implicated in the case.

"Mere fact that no receiver of the heroin was apprehended or arrested by the members of the raiding party or that no steps were made by the raiding party to trace the destination of heroin, amounting to 500 grams, does not make the present case unreliable or false," it said.

According to police, Rabina was arrested for possessing 500 grams of heroin on November 30, 2012 on a secret information from the area near Tis Hazari court.

Rabina was charged for the offence punishable under the sections of NDPS Act.
