A woman was today arrested in connection with the murder of her 31-year-old son in suburban Malad here, police said.

The woman, identified as Sisiliya D'souza (54), was arrested by Bangur Nagar police in Malad for the murder of her son Ronald on Wednesday night, said DCP (Zone 11) Vikram Deshmane.

According to police, the woman, whose husband had passed away around year ago, had conspired to kill her son as he was against her love-affair with their 25-year-old former driver, who allegedly executed the crime along with his friend. The accused duo is absconding.

"Around 10.30 pm on Wednesday, Sisiliya called the police control room and informed that her son Ronald was murdered by unidentified people. A police team reached the spot and found the victim lying in a pool of blood," inspector Deepak Phatangare of Bangur Nagar police station said.

Ronald seemed to have been attacked with a chopper on his chest, he said.

"During the initial probe, the woman told that around 8 pm, she had left the house for a walk and when she returned home between 10 pm and 10.30 pm, she was shocked to see her son dead," Phatangare added.

After interrogating Sisiliya's 26-year-old daughter, an air-hostess by profession, police learnt about her mother's extra-marital affair with their former driver, police said.

Police said they also learnt that the mother-son duo used to frequently quarrel over the issue as Ronald tried to stop Sisiliya from interacting with the driver, police said.

"When police questioned Sisiliya, she broke down and confessed to her role in the murder and also told about the role of two other accused," Phatangare said.

Sisiliya was today produced in a local court, which remanded her in police custody till December 17, police said.
