Woman held for smugggling gold, Rs.20 lakh seized from two men

Customs authorities at the airport here today seized gold weighing 6.5 kg from a woman and unaccounted cash of Rs 20 lakh from two men, officials said.

The 38-year-old woman, identified as Jayanthi, arrived by an Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur. During checking, a concealment of gold in the form of biscuits in her undergarment was detected, they said.

She is native of Madurai and being questioned for smuggling gold worth about Rs 2.12 crore.

In another case, two men -- Abu Backer and Ansari -- were detained hours before their departure to Dubai after unaccounted cash of Rs 20 lakh was found in their baggages.
