Woman held for smuggling gold worth Rs 49 lakh at IGIA

A woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valued at about Rs 49 lakh at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.

The woman was intercepted by customs officials after her arrival from Bangkok on Tuesday. She was allegedly trying to smuggle two gold bars of one kg each and had hidden it inside a jeans she put on, a release issued today by the customs said.

The value of the gold, which has been seized, is assessed to be Rs 48.75 lakh. The passenger, who hails from neighbouring Gurgaon, has been arrested, it said.
