Woman held for stealing during hundi counting

A woman was today arrested for allegedly stealing about Rs 30,000 during counting of cash offerings made in the hundi of famous hill shrine of Lord Muruga here in Dindigul District of Tamil Nadu.

42-year old woman, Chinnathai was part of a 150-member team of volunteers involved in the counting of the hundi collection since yesterday.

This morning, the person sitting next to her saw her putting some of the cash into her blouse and complained to the temple officials.

During subsequent inquiry and checking, officials found Rs 4,330 in her possession. She admitted to have stolen Rs 25,600 yesterday.
 

The entire cash was recovered and temple officials handed her over to police, who arrested the woman.

She was produced before the Judicial Magistrate court here which remanded her in judicial custody for 15 days.

The temple, which attracts a large number of devotees, had netted Rs 1.15 crore during the last counting of Hundi on March 19 this year.
