A 49-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth around Rs 46 lakh in last two years from a jewellery shop where she was employed, police said today.
Kirtida Kotecha was apprehended by the officials from the Mulund police station on January 28 and ornaments worth Rs 42 lakh were recovered from her possession, a senior police official said today.
The accused had mortgaged the stolen ornaments to a company and had taken a loan of Rs 28 lakh, said Rajaram Vhanmane, senior inspector of Mulund police station.

And hence, she was appointed on a senior position in the jewellery shop, from where the ornaments were stolen, they added.
The accused in the past two years stole ornaments at regular intervals. She has stolen 100 gold bangles and 11 'mangalsutras' (neck-less worn after marriage) worth around Rs 46 lakh, police said.
A complaint in this connection was registered on January 27, Vhanmane said, adding the accused has been remanded to police custody by a local court till February 5.
