Woman injured as guard fires in air on bank manager's birthday

A 45-year-old woman was injured after she was hit by gunshots allegedly fired by a security guard of a bank while celebrating its manager's birthday here this morning.

The incident took place in Central Delhi's Minto Road area when branch officials and others were celebrating the birthday of the bank manager of Oriental Bank of Commerce's Minto Road branch.

"As the celebrations were in full swing, the security guard of the bank, identified as Ramkumar fired in the air with his double-barrel gun. The bullet pallets, however, hit a woman, Zareen, who was standing in the balcony of her house which was on the seventh floor," a police official said.
 

The security guard was arrested after the incident. Initially, the guard claimed that the firing was accidental but later confessed that he shot in the air to celebrate the manager's birthday.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where her condition is stated to be stable. A case under section 337 and Arms Act has been registered at Kamla Market police station. Further investigations are underway, police said.
