Woman injured by crocodile in Odisha

A 55-year-old woman was seriously injured in an attack by a saltwater crocodile while she was taking a bath in the Brahmani River at Naladia in Kendrapara district, a forest official said today.

The incident took place yesterday, when the victim, Draupadi Pradhan was having a bath and the crocodile dragging her deep into the water before other women present there rescued her, Divisional Forest Officer, Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) Forest Division, Kedar Kumar Swain said.

The woman who suffered multiple injuries was admitted to Rajnagar Community Health Centre, he said.

The state forest department was bearing the cost of treatment of the woman, he said.
 

"We have sounded alert asking villagers to keep safe distance from water bodies that are identified as intrusion zones of the animals," he said.

Earlier on August 28 last, a woman - Baula Pradhan - has gone missing after being dragged by a crocodile from a river at Ajagarpatia near the Bhitarkanika National Park, he said.
