A 35-year-old woman was injured after two unidentified men allegedly fired at her while she was sitting outside her parent's residence in outer Delhi's Aman Vihar area, police said on Monday.

The woman, Geeta, is a resident of Agra and had recently come to Delhi to meet her parents, they said.

In her statement to police, she alleged that she was sitting beside a bonfire outside her parent's residence on Sunday night when the two men came there and asked her to handover the jewellery she was wearing, a senior official said.

When she resisted, the men allegedly opened fire at her and fled from the spot after snatching her jewellery, he said.

The woman sustained a bullet injury on her thigh and was rushed to a nearby hospital, the officer said, adding that she is out of danger.

Based on Geeta's statement, a case has been registered and the matter is being probed, he said.

Police said they have scanned the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area to ascertain the sequence of events. However, the cameras did not capture the entire sequence.

In the footage the accused are only seen fleeing from the spot, they said.
