Woman injured in tiger attack

A tribal woman was today injured after she was attacked by a tiger at a village in the buffer zone of the world famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.

The woman was sleeping when the tiger attacked her causing grievous injuries on her face, a forest official said.

The victim's son, Ramlal Baiga, said that her mother was sleeping in the house near the paddy crop in Ramouli village of Umaria district when a tiger came and pulled her along with the blanket in which she had wrapped herself. The feline attacked on her face causing grievous injuries.

As she raised an alarm, the tiger left her and went inside the forest, the official said.
 

The woman has been admitted to the district hospital, forest ranger Ramesh Markam said adding the forest department would bear her medical expenses.

The victim is also entitled for compensation as per the rules, he added.
