Rukmani Devi (55), who was lodged in prison twelve days back in connection with death of her daughter-in-law, complained of nausea last night and was rushed to the hospital early morning today, police said.

She died during treatment.

According to the family members, the doctors had referred the woman to Gorakhpur medical college hospital, but the jail authorities ignored it and admitted her to a local hospital here.

Jail superintendent S K Sharma said since the deceased was "old she could not withstand her illness."

However, a magisterial probe was ordered by district magistrate Ravi Kant Singh into the death. PTI Corr SAB PG SHS
