A woman judge posted at the district courts here has received a letter conveying a threat to her life.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jatinder Singh Khaira today said a probe had been launched into the complaint made by the woman judge.

The judge had received a three-page "threatening letter" written by one Sonu, he said, adding that Sonu had not mentioned any details like his address.

Sonu, in his letter, to the judge mentioned that a gang named 'Harsh' has decided to take revenge on her for her recent order in a murder case involving one Rajbali, the SSP said.

He said that Sonu had claimed in his letter that he was working as a "police informer" and was "exonerated" in the case by the judge while Rajbali was handed over punishment.

The SSP refused to divulge the name of the judge.
