A 25-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a local train at suburban Bandra station while her two children sustained injuries, Government Railway Police today said.

Pritti Gupta and her children were standing on platform number 5 when Gupta was knocked down by a train last evening, a senior GRP official said.

CCTV footage of the incident was not clear, and exactly how the accident took place was being ascertained, he said.

The incident took place around 8:30 PM yesterday.

Railway police rushed the woman and the two children to hospital, where the woman was declared brought dead.

The children, aged about four and two, sustained minor injuries in the incident. They were under observation at the hospital.

Initially, police could not ascertain the woman's identity.

One of her children -- her elder son -- mentioned 'Borivali' many times when police asked him where they lived.

A police team today went to Borivali in the northern suburbs, and found that a missing person complaint had been registered at Kasturba Marg police station there.

Based on the complaint, filed by Gupta's husband, the identity was confirmed.
