The incident took place in Sultanpuri at around 9:15 AM when Taruna, the victim, was going to her in-laws house with her children.
"The pillar had fallen down while it being lifted at the construction site by a crane on a nearby underpass. The pillar fell on the woman while her children and parents escaped unhurt. She was hit on her head," a senior police official said.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital from where she was shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The Railway underpass was being constructed by a private contractor. A case has been registered against the crane driver, who fled from the spot soon after the incident.
Taruna's husband, who is an auto driver, was informed of the incident when she was admitted in the hospital.
