The body of a woman, who was allegedly strangled to death by her husband two days ago, was today exhumed from a pit near her house in Chiru village under Chatarpur police station of Palamau district, police said.

The body of a 28-year-old Meena Devi, wife of Prabhu Choudhary, was exhumed in presence of Magistrate Rupesh Kumar Sinha and the Officer-in-charge of Chatarpur police station Mukesh Pandey.

Pandey said Pramod, who works in Delhi, came to the village a week ago and suspected that his wife was having an illicit relation.

Following an altercation with her over the issue, Pramod strangled Meena on the night of June 9 and dumped the body in a pit, which was dug near his house for installing a bore well, and covered it with the soil, he said.

After keeping quite for two days, Pramod went to his father-in-law Govind Choudhary's place and told him that Meena had gone missing and sought his help to trace her.

Govind Choudhary, however, suspected him and pressurized Pramod to speak truth, Pandey said adding that finally Pramod broke down and confessed his crime.

The villagers handed over to the police.

Based on the lead, Police exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem, Pandey added.
