Woman killed by wild elephants

A woman was killed by a wild elephant in a forest area in Sundargarh district this morning, forest officials said.

The victim, identified as Pitrush Hansda (57) of Lahandabud village, went to a nearby forest when she came face to face with the pachyderm, they said.

The woman tried to run away, but the jumbo attacked her.

Some villagers reached the spot after hearing her cry and shifted her to the nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, DFO, Sundergarh, Arun K Mishra, said.
