Woman killed, man injured by tusker

A 52-year-old woman was killed and a man critically injured when an elephant attacked them separately in Joranda area of Dhenkanal district today, forest officials said.

Bina Jena, her college principal husband and sister-in- law were taking a morning walk when the tusker attacked Bina.

She was taken to the district headquarter hospital where she was declared dead, hospital sources said.

Her husband and sister-in-law had a narrow escape.

About an hour later, another person named Rabi Nahak was injured by the same pachyderm when he was going to work in a paddy field, the officials said.

Nahak was brought to Dhenkanal hospital where he is undergoing treatment, they said.
