A 77-year-old woman at Rama Nagar under B N Pur police station limits was killed allegedly by unknown assailants today and looted some gold jewellery.

The police recovered the body of Sabitri Moharana from the premises of a local periodical office and sent for post-mortem.

The assailants used an iron road to kill the woman while she was on her way to pluck flowers, a senior police officer of B N Pur police station said adding, there were injury marks on the head of the victim.

"We suspect the assailants killed her by hitting her head," said inspector-in-charge, B N Pur PS, Anil Kumar Mishra.

The victim used to pluck flowers everyday morning and when she did not return for long today, her husband searched for her and found her body, the police said.
