Woman killed, over a dozen shanties gutted in fire in Noida

A 30-year-old woman was burnt to death while over a dozen shanties were destroyed when a fire broke out in the temporary settlements here in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.

The fire broke out around 12.30 am in Jharia locality of Baraula village, under Sector 49 police station limits, an official said.

"Around 15-16 shanties got destroyed in the fire and a woman died in the incident. No other injury or casualty was reported," a police spokesperson said.

The blaze was doused by multiple fire tenders, he added.

The official said the deceased has been identified as Kanchan, who hailed from West Bengal.

 

The cause of the fire is being ascertained, the police said.
