West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said curfew has been imposed under Dalu police station area at 5 pm today after the woman was hacked to death in the wake of clashes between two major Garo tribal clans.

In the clashes a house at Dapogkre and four at Gangbanga were reduced to ashes and many were injured.

The clashes took place when the bid by one group to acquire a piece of land was resisted by the other involving hundreds of people, district officials said.

There were also reports of stray incidents of arson, attacks and assaults in nearby areas as a retaliatory step, police said.
