Woman kills abusive husband, gets two years' prison term

The sessions court here today sentenced a 47 years old woman to two years' rigorous imprisonment for killing her husband.

Nanda Manik Andale, the woman, is a resident of Koparkhairne in Navi Mumbai.

Additional Sessions Judge M C Khadke convicted her under section 304 (A) (culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code and also imposed a fine of Rs 500 on her.

According to the prosecution, while Nanda worked as a maid in the neighbourhood, her husband did no work and always nagged her seeking money for liquor.

He beat her too, supspecting her character.

On October 26, 2011, at about 11 pm, she strangulated him with a rope while he was asleep. She was tried for murder (section 302) but was convicted for the lesser offence under section 304.
