The police today asked Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla, where a woman judicial magistrate died after child delivery on Wednesday, to constitute a medical board to probe if her death was due to medical negligence.
"The medical board will ascertain the cause of death and inquire whether the judicial magistrate Champabati Hati died due to medical negligence. The police will act according to their report," Additional Superintendent of Police S K Panigrahi said.
Hati's husband Amulya Badi had lodged a complaint at the Ainthapali police station alleging that his wife died due to medical negligence. Subsequently, the police had registered a case in this regard and initiated inquiry.
Though the expected date of delivery was October 15, the doctor performed the C-Section eight days before, Badi alleged and added, "Sheer negligence of the doctor killed my wife."
The autopsy was conducted on Thursday. The police, however, is yet to receive the autopsy report.
President of Sambalpur Bar Association Pramod Rath had demanded not to allow nursing homes, which do not have ICU, to admit patients for Cesarean section.
Hati, who is from Bargarh, died after delivering her second son on Wednesday. She also has a four-year old son. She was posted as the First Class Judicial Magistrate here.
