A 38-year-old woman was killed by a tiger under Saoli Forest Range in the district, police said today.
The deceased identified as Shantabai Bhoyar, a resident of Mehabujurg near here had gone to the forest along with some other women to collect firewood, Chief Conservator of Forests, Chandrapur Circle, Sanjay Thakare, said.
A tiger pounced upon her and killed her on the spot, yesterday while the other women fled from the spot and reported the incident to family members and villagers who later launched a search.
Notably, the location of the incident is near to the spot from where four tiger cubs were found dead two days back in the district while their mother tigress is missing.
Woman's body was sent to Rural Hospital for postmortem.
The forest department immediately gave Rs 30,000 cash of compensation to the deceased family for funeral.
The actual compensation amount will be given to them after formalities, Thakare said.
