Woman mauled to death by panther in Rajasthan

A 36-year-old woman was mauled to death by a panther in Jaitpur Brahman village of Alwar district today, police said.

Shanti Devi was attacked by the panther when she was working in an agricultural field, Pratapgarh police said.

Last week, two women were killed by a panther in Raipuria village close to Sariska Forest in Alwar district.

The victims were identified as Shanti Bai (55) and Birdi Bai (45) respectively, officials said.

Following the attacks, two panthers were trapped from Sariska forest area and sent to Jaipur, officials said.

Lalsot MLA and the state chief of National People's

Party, Kirori Lal Meena, visited Jaitpur Brahman village to take stock of the situation and sought compensation from the district administration and forest department for the family of the victim.
 

This was the fifth death due to Panther attack in Sariska forest area of Alwar. Four women and a man were mauled to death in the recent past.

"The incident occurred as the forest department failed to take timely action. If the panther has turned man-eater then it should be investigated at the earliest. We have sought compensation of Rs 10 lakh and job on compensatory grounds to a family member of the deceased," Meena said.
