Woman mowed down by DTC bus, driver arrested

A woman was killed this morning when a rashly driven bus of Delhi Transport Corporation mowed her down in East Delhi, police said.

Jyoti, a resident of Trilokpuri area, was mowed down by the bus when she was sweeping the footpath, police said.

Three other persons were also injured in the mishap and the driver of the bus, Joginder, has been arrested, they said.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 8 AM when a low-floor DTC bus was stopped by DTC officials for checking on the ITO-Karkari Mor carriageway.

Another low floor DTC bus came from behind and hit the stationery bus, after which it went on the footpath, hit an electric pole and then banged into a stationery Maruti 800 car before mowing down the woman, they said.
 

Rajesh, Halke and Mahender, who were inside the bus, were injured in the incident, they said.

"The critically injured woman was rushed to the nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where she was declared brought dead," they said.

The driver has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC, they said.
