Woman Naxal commander surrenders

A woman Naxal commander carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on her head today surrendered before police here.

"Group Commander of outlawed CPI (Maoist-Leninist), Burra Bhagya alias Aruna (38), carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on her head, surrendered here today," Karimnagar District Police Superintendent D Joel Davis told reporters here this evening.

Bhagya, who hailed from Subhash Nagar in Husnabad mandal, had joined the People's War group (PWG) in 1998. She worked in various groups in Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. She then joined the party as a member and was gradually elevated to the position of Commander of Gadchiroli Dalam in Maharashtra state, he said.
 

"Soon after her surrender, she was sent to hospital for treatment as she complained of ill-health. She was involved in various offences in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra states," Davis said.

He said that the surrendered woman Maoist will be given the reward on her head and also provided rehabilitation.
