Woman Naxal killed in encounter with police

A woman Naxal commander was killed in police firing in Botejhari-Wadgaon forest area near here this afternoon, police said.

The Naxal, identified as Jyoti Gawade, was the deputy commander of Kasnasur group, police said.

"The incident occurred between 3 pm and 4 pm, when a police team was conducting a search operation in the forest area. The ultras opened fire, but when the police personnel retaliated, they escaped from the spot," a police official said.

Later, police conducted a search and found the body of the woman Maoist and also recovered a gun from the spot.

Further investigation is on.
