A senior woman official in Mettupalayam Municipality was today arrested while allegedly accepting bribe of Rs.5,000.
Based on a complaint by one Anandan, a contractor in the area, that the Municipal Commissioner (in-charge) Malligai was demanding money to sanction digging of a borewell, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths laid a trap, police said.
Accordingly, Anandan was asked to pay Rs.5,000, which was marked by the sleuths with chemical, and Malligai was held when she was allegedly accepting it, they said.

After three hours of search, the four-member team, led by DSP Murugesan, seized seven documents as evidence, including tender register, estimate and bill registers.
She was produced before a judicial magistrate court which remanded her to judicial custody, police added.
