Some boozers gathered at the victim Keshari Devi's house last night and started drinking. When she protested they beat her mercilessly causing her death on the spot, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Md Saifuddin said.
The boozers also beat up Devi's daughter in-law who sustained minor injuries, he said.
The villagers later overpowered a fleeing boozer, identified as Shankar Manjhi and handed him to the police, Saifuddin said.
The victim's body has been sent for post-mortem, the DSP said, adding that a case has been registered in this connection and an investigation was underway.
