Surender Kumar Sharma, the relative of the victim Dipty whose husband Rajesh Kumar is a junior engineer in discom BSES, was arrested yesterday, they said.

According to police, on September 4, when Kumar returned home from office, he found his wife dead and articles stolen from his house.

During investigation, it was found that Sharma had visited the house on the day of murder and had been absconding since then.

Acting on a tip-off, Sharma was arrested. During interrogation, he confessed to have murdered Dipty, police said.

"Sharma told police that last week both the families had gone on a joint tour to Agra. He developed liking towards her and on the fateful day he came to her house and tried to develop physical relations. But Dipty refused and warned him that she would reveal the incident to her husband, following which he strangulated her," Additional Commissioner of Police (South-West district) A K Ojha said.

"In order to dodge the police he staged a false scene of robbery and ransacked the house," he said.
